A piece of Czechoslovakian military gear no soldier would go without, the M60 canteen and felt wool cover! This Cold War era canteen has a vintage look though it was practical enough to be used from the '60's up to the 90's. Manufacturing dates vary inside this time frame.
These later M60 iterations have a plastic pull-off cap as opposed to the cork. Constructed from aluminium, the canteen will hold just under a liter of water. It sits in a felted wool pouch which regulates the temperature of the contents. This pouch is then wrapped with the leather strapping which can be attached to a belt. Carry your water with a vintage military style or add this unique-looking piece to a collection.

With regards the cover shrinking, I found a solution.
Remove cover, immerse in hot water and massage the cover, refit over canteen, it will require some effort but button can be done up, tightly wrap string around canteen and allow to cool and dry. This has worked successfully for me
Great piece of kit from the Czech military, it does have a loop to be able to be hooked UpTo a belt or molle strap. Would be hard to remove it for easy access. I don't have any problems with leaking, I like the design of having a wool cover to wet and keep cool. the only flaw on this canteen is it doesn't stand up straight like my other 1 quart canteens bcs of design, the interior of my canteen was basically like new but the exterior of the metal bottle has definitely seen some use.overall great bottle and would recommend to anyone, will be using this for camping and hiking trips, Cheers.
This piece of kit is tough, durable & can be used for hiking or camping. The felt cover can be wet to keep the water in the canteen cool in summer. The leather harness can be used to attach the canteen to your belt or the molle strapping of your bag. It can also be stored in the outside side pouches of most hiking bags making it easy to access. I love this old school piece of kit. Stop paying top dollar for plastic canteens & buy the M60 Czech canteen!
Since I’m oldschool I deliberately bought one of these with a cork instead of the plastic cap, from the Auckland store. Love the felt cover and classic leather harness, it feels right at home with my bushwalking kit back in Perth. The quality of the aluminium bottle is also top class. The Czechs (or Slovaks) did a great job producing this bit of kit in the 60’s, so much so that it was used till the 1990’s! Cheers, Rafski
