An Austrian Army rain jacket with a waterproof and breathable membrane. Some are Gore-Tex® and some are the European equivalent, Sympatex®. Both are high performing fabrics used in wet weather gear. This raincoat features a similar cut to the US M65 with four pockets on the front and a zipped-in hood. Dated around the mid-late 1990's.
Built using a two-layer waterproof membrane with a polyester shell and polyamide lining. This four layer construction provides excellent protection and comfort. Drawstrings around the waist and collar can be tightened to improve the fit and maximise protection from the elements. For storage, the jacket provides four pockets on the front with snap dome closures. Another two zipped pockets are located in the lining. The left sleeve features an "Osterreich Bundesheer" eagle patch. This jacket has a solid military build to handle your rainy outdoor pursuits.

This item arrived last week and I'm very pleased with it.
Brand new and high quality construction is evident; as described it is styled after the US M-65, but not as heavy and packs down much more easily.
The jacket lining (including in the hood) is a bonus and adds a degree of warmth (was wearing this in minus one degree C the other morning) and can be bolstered by inserting a liner. With the hood stowed away, its high collar adds to the warmth. It also has rubberised reinforcing bands lining the cuffs and hem to reduce wear on rub points. The four external pockets have good capacity and are easy to access with the two internal zipped pockets useful for secure storage of items such as cash, keys cards etc.
Water resistance is very good (admittedly only tested under garden hose so far) with water just beading and rolling away.
On the downside the plastic zippers are tiny and definitely not "soldier proof", however if used carefully this shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Lastly although a military surplus item, its solid colour, subdued shoulder patch and near-invisible velcro name patch makes it unobtrusive to wear at the footy etc.
Eight out of Ten. Cheers.
